MTC bus runs over woman on bike

The deceased was identified as Lilly, wife of Vjiayabalan of Kolapakkam. According to the police, Vijayabalan (37) and Lilly went to Porur to meet a friend. 

The incident took place when the couple were returning home around 6.30 pm on the Porur - Kundrathur High Road. 

When they reached Vigneshwara Nagar, Vijayabalan lost control of his two-wheeler as the road was dug for maintenance work by the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation. Lilly fell on the side, near to the median, when an MTC bus (route number: 578 plying from Vadapalani to Sriperumbudur) ran over her, police said. 

Lilly was rushed to the SRMC Hospital where she was declared dead on ar-rival. Police said that the woman was mother of two children. Police have arrested the bus driver Gunalan (40) from Arcot and remanded him in judicial custody. Further investigation is on. Residents complained that the pits without any barricades are posing threat to the motorists.
