    Stage set for another comedy

After reaching out to the younger audience, Tamil plays staged in the city have been receiving wider recognition. Knowing the pulse of the audience is this theatre group — Theatre of Maham (TOM). After a successful run of their production Thillalan gadi Mohanambal, the team has come up with another rollicking comedy.

Interestingly titled, Kochikaadhe Ma, the play subtly focusses on the art of anger management! Theatre artist Madhuvanti Arun says, “Comedy will always remain our favourite genre. So, while planning our next production we wanted to do something out of the box. Is it possible to show comedy through anger, which is directly opposite to the usual norm? This thought made us come up with the breezy comedy, Kochikaadhe Ma. The story is about a girl who gets angry at the drop of a hat. She goes to a club to control her anger — but she makes the master angry because of her behaviour. How things progress from there on forms the rest of the story.”

Comedy is a serious business to Madhuvanti and she thanks her father YG Mahendra for the training. “Making a person laugh is hard —there isn’t any formula for that. Over time, I’ve learned the hard way how to make people laugh. I hope Kochikaadhe Ma can strike a chord with the audience,” she says.

The play will be staged at Bharat Kalachar, T Nagar, on August 3.
