    Ten nabbed at gunpoint in Kanchi

    Ten history-sheeters were nabbed at gunpoint from two different places, including Somangalam reserve forest in Kancheepuram district on Thursday. Police said that the men were planning for robberies on the bypass road and also seized weapons, including knives and sickles, from them.

    The arrested persons were identified as A Raju (23), S Mohamed Ali (24) and R Senu (20), all three hailing from Gandhi Nagar in Somangalam; Iyyapan (22) of Ramji Nagar in Somangalam; and Gokul 25, Rajesh (36), Prasanth (25), Sarath Kumar (20), Vijay Kumar (26) and Jayakumar (26) of Sriperumbudur. 

    After a tip-off that a group of men, armed with deadly weapons, were hiding in the Somangalam reserve forest, a police team from Somangalam station rushed to the spot and surrounded the Raju, Mohamed Ali, Senu and Iyyapan. The suspects allegedly attacked the policeman with weapons in their bid to escape. 

    However, the police team managed to overpower and arrest all of them at gunpoint. Then, the four men were taken to the Somangalam police station. 

    After interrogating them, the police team found that another group of men were hiding in Sriperumbudur. Based on the input from the Somangalam police, Sriperumbudur police went to their hiding spot and arrested the six men. Police seized knives and sickles from the arrested men.

    Police said all of them were history-sheeters and have many pending cases on them at various police stations across the city. They were planning to rob passer-by and bungalows on the bypass road, added police sources. All of them have been remanded in judicial custody and lodged in prison.
