City Police Commissioner rewards police officers for exceptional performance
Three police personnel, including a sub-inspector and constable from the traffic wing, and a constable attached to the Armed Reserve wing, who helped nab the criminals suspected to be involved in mobile phone snatching and autorickshaw theft cases, were rewarded by City Police Commissioner AK Viswanathan on Friday.
Chennai
In the first case, sub-inspector P Radhakrishnan and constable R Nagarajan attached to Flower Bazaar traffic wing were involved in a vehicle check on MSC Bose Road around 12.15 pm on Tuesday when they intercepted an autorickshaw.Â
When questioned, the driver, Manikandan (22) of Kilpauk, gave contradictory answers. On further interrogation, Manikandan confessed that he had stolen the autorickshaw that was parked near Chromepet railway station.Â
Incidentally, the SI had caught Manikandan a week earlier on charges of drunken driving and had asked him to pay the fine. However, the man never turned up.Â
It was only after the arrest and detailed questioning that the police realised that he was a known offender, with several cases of autorickshaw thefts pending at Ayanavaram, Aminjikarai, Nungambakkam and Ambattur police stations. He was arrested and two auto-rickshaws were seized from him.Â
In another incident, a man snatched the mobile phone from Vidya, a native of Vellore, at the Marina beach and attempted to flee the scene on foot. Hearing her cries for help, armed reserve police personnel, Rajadurai, who was at the spot, chased and caught the suspect. The accused was handed over to the Anna Square police.Â
On Friday, City Police Commissioner AK Viswanathan invited them to the commissioner and lauded the three personnel for their exemplary work while n duty.
