Woman, son run over by tanker lorry ahead of daughter’s marriage
A woman and her son who were on their way to hand out wedding invitations were run over by a tanker lorry on Anna Salai on Tuesday.

The bodies of Nirmala and Mahesh of Chetpet were sent for post-mortem examination and the Annasalai traffic investigation wing police arrested the lorry driver Balachandran. They were on their way to distribute invitations for Nirmala’s daughter’s wedding.
When they reached Anna Salai, the water tanker allegedly tried to jump a traffic signal and Mahesh who did not anticipate this rammed the lorry. While both Nirmala and Mahesh fell on the road, the lorry’s rear wheels ran over them.
Motorists rushed to the spot to rescue them, but they died on the spot. Though Balachandran escaped from the spot, he was later traced and arrested. A hunt is on for Balachandran’s aide. The traffic was affected on the arterial road due to the accident.
Man, daughter die in accident
In a similar accident, a man and his daughter were killed after their two-wheeler was rammed from behind by a lorry on Tirvottiyur High Road on Tuesday.
Kasimuthunadan (58) of Tiruvayarpadi village, who runs a bakery, was taking his daughter Anandhi (17), a Class 12 student, to the Ponneri government school on his two-wheeler. When they were passing by the government arts college, a speeding lorry rammed their bike from behind.
When they fell off the bike, the lorry ran over Kasimuthunadan’s head and killed him on the spot and Anandhi died at a hospital. The Ponneri police have registered a case and have launched a hunt for the lorry driver, who escaped from the spot.
