Caution deposit row: SSM school correspondent arrested
Police arrested the correspondent of Shrimathi Sundharavalli Memorial (SSM) school after he disgracefully talked about the students and their parents during the morning prayer.

Peerkankaranai police have arrested K Santhanam and registered case under 10 sections under the IPC. Police had also arrested school management partner Karthikeyan, school trust member Rangnathan and a building contractor Selvakumar in the case.Â
On last Friday, hundreds of parents had gathered in front of the school’s branches in Chromepet and Perungalathur and protested after the school management sent a circular to the parents demanding a caution deposit of up to Rs three lakh and threatened to issue transfer certificates at the end of the academic year if they failed to pay.Â
Later, Kancheepuram district chief educational officer visited the spot and assured the parents that no caution deposit would be collected. Following this, the correspondent Santhanam had allegedly spoke disgracefully about the students and their parents during the morning prayer at the school on Tuesday. He asked the students to take the TC and throw on their parents face if latter can’t even pay the caution deposit.Â
After students narrated the incident to their parents, some of them approached the police and filed a complaint. Following that, Peerkankaranai police arrested Santhanam on Wednesday morning.Â
Tambaram RDO and Mount Deputy commissioner conducted interrogated him. Later, Santhanam was remanded in judicial custody. After the arrest the parents got SMS alerts that school will remain closed from Thursday as their correspondent was arrested. However, they informed that the school will be functioning normally later.
