Metro phase II: Land registrations on hold

According to documents available with DT Next, the authorities have identified 44 properties along the proposed route near RK Salai (18 properties), Mandaveli (11), Thirumayilai (12) and Greenways Road (4) Metro stations. The order by the special Tahsildar (Chennai division) of CMRL dated July 4, barred these properties earmarked for RK Salai, Mylapore, Mandaveli and Greenways Road metro stations from registration.

These four stations falling under Corridor III, stretching from Madhavaram to SIPCOT, would be constructed underground. This corridor, stretching for 45.81 km, has 50 stations, including 30 underground stations, which would cut through the arterial portion of the city. It would mainly cover Perambur, Kilpauk, Sterling Road, Royapettah GH, Adyar, Thiruvanmiyur and almost the entire length of IT corridor, all the way up to the second phase of SIPCOT beyond Navalur.

The stations, roughly 1km apart, would have island platforms - which is there only on one side, like in the case of the underground station. Ealier in June, CMRL had identified 820 properties and served notices to the property owners.

CMRL has set a 30-day deadline for the owners to settle the disputes, if any, with the Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO) designated by the government. Mandatory public consultations will be conducted prior to the land acquisition. CMRL, which had awarded tenders for detailed design consultancy (DDC) for corridors III and V, is expected to finalise DDC bids for corridor IV soon.
