Two engineers of construction firm arrested
Two site engineers were arrested and cases booked against a construction firm on Sunday, after an under-construction building collapsed in Kandanchavadi, in which a worker was killed and 30 others were injured.

The construction firm has been booked under three sections, including for being careless at work which led to the mishap. The arrested site engineers were identified as Murugesan and Silambarasan.
Sources said that the second floor of the building came down on the workers, unable to withstand the weight, at Govindasamy Nagar on MGR Salai off OMR. The deceased was identified as Bablu (23) of Bihar. His body was found when the part of the collapsed structure was removed from the road with the help of an earth mover.
On information, fire and rescue personnel from Guindy, Teynampet and Thuraipakkam rushed to the spot and National Disaster Response Force also joined them in the rescue operation.
Sources said that the four-storey building was constructed as an extension to an existing structure to house a generator and park vehicles. City Police Commissioner AK Viswanathan visited the accident site on Sunday along with T Nagar Deputy Commissioner Aravindan to oversee the rescue operation.
