Ayanavaram incident shocks residents, security agency
A day after the news broke of a 11-year-old being raped by about 22 men inside an apartment complex in Ayanavaram, most of the residents of the complex and those living nearby seemed to be in shock. Others expressed anger against the accused.

One of them, a resident of the gated community, said on condition of anonymity that they trusted their staff way too much which resulted in the incident.
“Such incidents should never take place again. The licence of the security agency should be cancelled, and the police should investigate whether the agency recruited them verifying their background. The accused should be punished severely,” said the resident, who works in a private firm.
Claiming that he had financially helped some of the accused for their children’s education, he partly blamed the residents’ association for not periodically checking for suspicious activities by the workers within the campus.
“The entire building is under CCTV surveillance, but I’m not sure how many of them are in a working condition,” said the resident.
“Focus Security Pvt Ltd is not a well-known agency and they were given the contract recently. The police should check whether the agency did a background check of the workers at all,” he said.
A flower vendor who has a stall outside near the apartments could recognise the accused by their names and said that they projected themselves to be very strict with outsiders and behaved rudely with visitors. “How could they even think of touching a child that too one who cannot talk or hear properly? They are not humans and should be hanged,” she said.
Another resident of the complex said that there is also a complaint book where residents can report about any-thing in the community. “The police should check if any complaints have been made against the security guards and other workers,” he said.
When contacted, a spokesperson of Focus Security Services Pvt Ltd told DT Next that they were equally shocked by the development.
Following the incident, security was beefed up at the apartments and residents were seen waiting at the entrance with their vehicles for verification before they were allowed to enter the premises. Also, police sources said that the residents’ association had terminated the contract of Focus Security Services Pvt Ltd and roped in a new security agency.
