Martial arts academy to train 10,000 women, eyes Guinness World Record
Considering the spate of incidents involving chain-snatching and violence on the gender, a martial arts academy in Chennai has begun a campaign to raise awareness about women learning self-defense.
Chennai
‘Wings 4 Win’, the women’s wing of the Chinese Black Tiger Kung Fu Association, is organising a programme involving more than 10,000 women in an attempt to break a Guinness World Record.
“We have been active for close to two decades in the field, and of late, we have understood that our priority should be women in the city – from school children to even elderly – learning self-defense. Whenever there is a crime against women, it takes a man to help them. We want the women to take care of themselves and also stand up for others. Self-defense is the first step to resolving this issue,” said Grandmaster Anil Kumar, who runs the academy with Chief master Ajith.
“Apart from adding to the physical prowess, learning the art also helps in improving mental strength and discipline. Having taught at schools and colleges across the state, we have students of all ages who are ready to come forward and promote this venture actively,” Anil added.
The organisation will conduct an event where women of all ages are invited to participate.
“It’s free of cost and they need not have any prior training. We will guide them through videos before the event, that will involve live demonstrations and after the event, every participant will get six months of free self-defense training, he said.
