    Chennai to get thunder showers for next two days

    With southwest monsoon intensifying in Western Ghats region in Tamil Nadu, heavy rain lashed Chennai and its suburbs on Wednesday evening even as the weathermen predicted more rain in the next two days.

    Heavy rain was reported in most places in the city and its suburbs with Nungambakkam receiving about 3 cm rain while Chennai airport recorded about 2 cm downpour rain in a span of two hours.

    Even neighbouring districts such as Kancheepuram and Thiruvallur also received heavy downpour and witnessed water-logging.

    Commuters, especially office-goers, were stranded at several places in the city as the rain started around 6 pm. Water logging and traffic jam was reported at several junctions in the city as it rained along with gusty winds.

    However, suburban train services from Beach Station to Tambaram remain unaffected. Likewise, services of Arakkonam-bound EMU trains were also unaffected.

    Met officials said that the downpour is expected to continue till Friday and the temperature will drop by few degree Celsius over the same period.

    “For Chennai, the sky is likely to be cloudy. Light rain or thunder showers is likely to occur towards evening or night. Maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 35 and 25 degree Celsius respectively,” said an official.

    A low-pressure area is very likely to form over north Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood during the next 48 hours, the officials added.
