Mobile phone snatcher caught in the act
DT Next was on the spot to capture an action-packed chase that unfolded right in front of the busy Chennai Central Station during rush hour late on Tuesday evening.
Chennai
It ended successfully after a policeman on duty pursued and overpowered a mobile phone snatcher. Mani from Tiruvannamalai was waiting for bus in front of the station when a man snatched his mobile phone from his pocket and took to his heels. Mani raised an alarm and started running after him. That was when a policeman, Ahmed Hussain, who was on duty took note of the incident and started chasing the man.
Though the snatcher ran through the traffic and managed to cross the busy Poonamallee High Road, the policeman refused to give up the chase and followed on foot. Finally, Hussain nabbed the suspect and brought him back to the police post outside the railway station and handed over the phone to the owner.
“They (robbers) should not feel that they can get away with such crimes,” Mani said, while the suspect, Manju, a native of Dharmapuri, who works at a construction site in city, was taken to Flower Bazaar police station.
