The businessman M Muthukumar of Pillayarkuppam in Puducherry has a tiles showroom near Maduranthakam. He was abducted around 9.30 pm on Saturday, when he got into the car to return home.
According to sources, a man stopped the businessman’s car and later two others joined him brandishing knives.
The gang then got into his car and sped away. Hearing his cries, one of the employees at the shop alerted his relative Balachandar. As Muthukumar’s mobile number was switched off, Balachandar lodged a complaint with the Maduranthakam police.
While police intensified a vehicle check, they could not locate Muthukumar. Police sources said that the family members received a call from Muthukumar’s mobile mumber demanding Rs 10 lakh.
Meanwhile, villagers spotted Muthukumar, who was blindfolded and unconscious, near Vandavasi on Sunday evening. “Since he was kept blindfolded, he was not able to provide any identity,” said the police without disclosing if the ransom was paid or not.
