Debt-ridden woman, son hang to death at home

The deaths came to light on Thursday after the deceased woman’s daughter alerted the neighbours and the police when the mother and the brother failed to answer their mobile phones. 

The deceased were identified as Indrani and her son Thygarajan (25), who was working in private firm in Porur. Indrani was allegedly finding it difficult to pay back the debts after her husband Prithviraj died few months back.

“It looks like Indrani committed suicide first on Wednesday by hanging and later in the evening her son too killed himself by hanging from the same fan,” police said, adding that both the bodies were sent for post mortem.

In another incident, a 18-year-old college student, son of a police inspector, committed suicide by hanging in his house in Bhavani Nagar in Madhavaram Milk colony on Thursday. His father is an inspector at the Commissioner-ate. 

The deceased youth, identified as Abhishek, was scolded by his parents for his average academic performance. He was studying second year of engineering, police said. “This could have caused the youth to take the extreme step,” they added.
