Jewels worth Rs 1 crore, cash stolen from doctors’ house
Unidentified persons burgled diamond and gold jewels worth Rs 1 crore and Rs 2 lakh in cash from a doctor’s house in Nungambakkam.
Chennai
The victim, Dr V Kaushik (46) of Kamdar Nagar in Nungambakkam, is running a clinic on Jambulingam Street and works part-time at a private corporate hospital in Thousand Lights.
Kaushik and his family had gone to London on June 18 and returned on Wednesday. When he entered the house to get money for the driver, he found a cupboard open and the valuables were missing.
On information, the Nungambakkam police rushed to the spot. “Kaushik said that the total worth of the stolen items is around Rs 1 crore,” police said. However, since the front door and the office room not disturbed, police suspect that the burglary could have been done by someone known to the family. The three-story bungalow has a gym on the second floor with a glass door.
Burglars might have gained entry through that door as it was found open. They had four house helps and police suspect that one of them could have helped the burglars in the heist as the cupboards have not been broken open. They were unlocked using keys, which were kept in the puja room.
The CCTV cameras were turned away to aid the burglary. The huge heist in the VIP locality has shocked residents. The Nungambakkam police have registered a case and are inquiring the house helps.

She alerted her son Grish and based on his complaint, the Virugambakkam police have registered a case.
