    Minor dies in drag race on Anna Salai

    A 17-year-old was killed and another suffered severe head injuries when a group of bikers went on a high-speed race on the arterial Anna Salai around 4 pm on Saturday.

    The deceased was identified as P Vikram (17) of Baruva Nagar in Teynampet, while the injured teenager, Logeshwaran (17) of Lakshmi Ammal Koil Street of Perambur, has been admitted to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital.

    The accident happened when youngsters on seven motorbikes were racing on Anna Salai. As they were crossing Spencer Plaza, Vikram rammed his vehicle on another bike and lost control. Vikram and Logeshwaeran, who was riding pillion, were thrown off the bike and both fell on the median.

    As the other racers escaped from the spot immediately, motorists rushed the duo to the Government Royapettah Hospital. Doctors said Vikram was brought dead and referred Logeshwaran to RGGGH. The Anna Square police have registered a case and further investigation is on.

    The city police had warned parents against allowing their minor wards to drive. After the death of a 17-year-old, police are expected to crack down on the racing incidents in the city.
