Batteries stolen from three government vehicles

Unidentified men stole batteries of three government vehicles parked in the Kancheepuram Collector office premises on Wednesday night.

The theft came to light on Thursday morning when drivers came to pick up the vehicles. When the vehicles failed to start, the drivers opened the bonnet of the vehicles and found the batteries missing.

At least 60 four-wheelers used by government officials are usually parked adjacent to the Collector’s office. Police said the officials from the Kancheepuram Collectorate have given a police complaint.

At least 50 sovereigns and cash were burgled from the house of a 70-year-old retired central government employee in Asiad Colony, Thirumangalam. The retired Income Tax official Vedavalli, had gone to Singapore on June 9 and she returned recently.

She was staying at a relative’s place for three days and when she returned home on Thursday night, she found her valuables missing.
