Special team in Karnataka to trace Iranian robbers
Following the arrest of five Iranian robbers at Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh, a seven-member special police team from Chennai is in Karnataka to nab the rest of the gang members suspected to be involved in a spate of robberies in Chennai.
Chennai
The notorious Iranian group, known as specialists in attention diversion, marked their return to the city recently and resorted to snatching offences. Following this, a special team was formed which nabbed five of them in Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday.
Now a team headed by Adyar Deputy Commissioner Sashank Sai is camping at Bidar in Karnataka to trace the other suspects. “There is a considerable population of Iranians in Bidar. We suspect that the other robbers could have taken shelter there,” said Joint Commissioner (North) Prem Anand Sinha, whose team arrested the five men from this group. “The other jewellery that the gang robbed in the previous weeks need to be retrieved,” he said.
“The Iranian robbers are known for attention diversion and this is probably the first time that they have indulged in chain snatching,” said the Joint Commissioner.
