Gangster murder: 18 prisoners transferred
A day after gangster ‘Boxer’ Murali was brutally murdered by a gang of five in the Central Prison the Puzhal Central Prison, the prison department on Thursday shifted 18 prisoners to other central prisons across the state.

According to sources, the prisoners shifted had been detained under Goondas Act. “Nine inmates were sent to Cuddalore prison, while the rest were sent to Tiruchy prison to prevent future clashes between the prisoners,” a source said.
Meanwhile, the Puzhal police decided to take the five-murder accused — Saranraj, Pradeep Kumar, Ramesh, Karthik and Joel — in their custody for further investigation. It is still not clear how the inmates managed to keep weapons inside the toilet, this angle is expected to be probed. Also, the role of ailing gangster Nagendran is yet to be established.
Boxer Murali (34), who has several cases including three murders and attempted murder cases in 16 police stations, was brutally hacked to death and castrated by the gang when he went to the toilet after breakfast on Wednesday.
