TNPFTC lauds state’s ban on e-cigarettes

Adding that many are falling prey to the marketing strategies of tobacco industry, which portray that the use of e-cigarettes makes youngsters look cool, S Cyril Alexander, State Convener of TNPFTC said, “Electronic cigarettes are a gateway to the habit of smoking. It encourages vaping and thereby introduces the consumer to nicotine. Once the chemical sets into the system of the person, it is only a matter of time before the individual gets addicted to the substance.” 

The State Health Department has rightly understood the issue and banned the e-cigarettes, otherwise known as Electronic Nicotine Delivery System (ENDS), he said. 

“After its implementation, the ban will make it illegal to light up, sell, manufacture, import or distribute the battery-operated devices in the State, protecting youngsters from this habit. While this is a commendable move, it is also important to ban the online sale, advertisement and promotion of e-cigarettes as well,” he added.
