Metro Water to replace faulty sewage line in North Chennai

A statement from the CMWSSB stated that sewage is collected from Law College, Royapuram, Tondiarpet B pumping stations of Area V and Tondiarpet A, D, E and Kasimedu pumping stations of Area IV are being collected at Tondiarpet F – newly relaying pumping station. 

“The collected sewage is pumped to Kodungaiyur Treatment Plant through 1200 mm diameter force main. During pumping, an increasing number of leaks have been frequently noticed and attended to immediately in the 1200mm main line. During such maintenance works, it is noticed that the 1200mm main line has been completely worn out and needs replacement as the age of the pipeline exceeds 30 years. Necessary proposals have been already formulated to replace the 1200 mm main line for a length of 4.60 kilometres,” stated the missive. 

The CMWSSB has also taken action to plug the flow of untreated sewage into the waterbody. 

“In view of ensuing uninterrupted pumping operation and to avoid leak in the 1200 mm pumping main line by temporarily and partially operating a scour valve of 600 mm diameter fitted in the Buckingham Canal opposite RK Nagar pumping station,” added the statement.
