RMC forecasts slight increase in temperature for Chennai and suburbs
The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has forecast a slight increase in daytime temperatures over North coastal Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, for the next few days.
Chennai
According to the local weather forecast, skies over the city is likely to be generally cloudy. Surface wind is likely to be strong and gusty at times. Maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 38 and 29 degrees Celsius respectively on Monday.
Speaking to DT Next, a RMC official said, “Weather models indicate the absence or delayed arrival of sea breeze over the next few days.
It is likely that the temperature takes a considerable time to come down. Hence, evenings in places like Chennai might remain warm.”
Meanwhile, the meteorological department said the onset of Southwest monsoon over Eastern India has been affected due to a low-pressure currently developed over Bay of Bengal.
The low-pressure area is likely to become a depression by Monday and move towards Bangaladesh coast.
“West coastal regions of the country will continue to receive moderate rainfall for the next few days, though risk of extreme rainfall will reduce from Sunday night,” another RMC official said.
He, however, added that the monsoon condition will persist over extreme South Tamil Nadu.
A city-based weather blogger said, “Traditional Southwest monsoon impact areas in the State like Kanniyakumari, parts of Tirunelveli and places along the Western Ghats in the districts of Nilgiris amd Coimbatore will continue to get rains under the influence of the monsoon.” Rest of the State will remain dry with warmer days likely in North coastal Tamil Nadu, he added.
