The victim Syed Mohammed Sabeer (32), a resident of Selaiyur, had took a car on lease from Samuel Ebenezer (37), who runs a travel agency in Tirumullaivoyal.

It is said that Syed Mohammed Sabeer did not pay the dues for the past few months and it increased to Rs 2 lakh. As he did not respond over phone properly, Samuel and his friends hatched a plan to abduct him.

On Saturday night, Samuel, his partners Ganesamurthy (53), Saravanan (46), drivers Abdul Durai (35), Jayaprakash (28), Mohammed Ali (35) and Mohammed Sadab (28) went to Syed’s house in two cars and demanded him to settle the money immediately.

It led to an argument and Samuel and his accomplices allegedly attacked Syed and took him in their car. They also drove away Syed’s car.

Panicked over the incident, Syed’s mother Begum (60) alerted the Selaiyur police. Around 11.30 pm, abductors called Begum from Syed’s phone and demanded Rs 2 lakh immediately and threatened to kill Syed if she doesn’t settle the money.

Begum alerted the police again after which they traced Syed’s phone to Anna Nagar. A special team rushed to the spot, rescued the victim and arrested all seven men.

They were remanded in judicial custody and police are also interrogating Syed Mohammed Sabeer to know why he didn’t pay the dues. Further investigation is on.
