No Filter: Christleda steals your heart with her latest track

A few days ago when she launched her first single ‘Steal You for a Smoke,’ I had to check it out. I have to tell you — this song is an earworm, if you hear it once, you will be humming it all day. Written and sung by Christleda, produced by Harsha Kumar and DJ TAP (who is the other member of Siblitronics, and obviously Christleda’s brother), it is getting rave reviews from people. 

Chrissy tells me, “The best compliment I received was when several former students of mine from the school called me and told me they loved the song so much that they were recording covers already. What more can a teacher and a musician ask for? I have always been writing songs but I was worried how people would respond or if I would get negative criticism. When I wrote this one and played it to my family, their response gave me the courage to share this with the world.  Now, I plan to record other songs I have written, maybe even release an album someday.” 

As with all good songs, I asked Chrissy what or who the inspiration was behind her track, be it, John Legend, Adam Levine or John Denver. “I was inspired to write this after I met a guy and I liked him, though it ended in a heartbreak for me. You know, those initial days of flirting and texting and stealing moments alone while hanging out with friends, the butterflies in your stomach — that’s what this song is all about. It is something everyone can relate to and going by Taylor Swifts track record, one can make a career out of writing about love, relationships and break-ups. Here’s wishing Chrissy the very best for making the most out of her talent and singing her way to the top. 

World Environment Day went by last week (June 5) and most people feel like they have done their part just by posting an impassioned tweet or Instagram post. As always, my personal eco-consciousness guide/ author Arya Rajam introduced me to two men from Earth Fokus, who have come out with a device that helps save water called QuaMist. It comes inbuilt with an atomiser which turns the water into a fine mist; let me tell you, it feels like the mist from a beautiful waterfall. It does take some getting used to because it looks and feels very different but it’s easy to install, almost like screwing on the back of my earring. 

QuaMist is the brainchild of Arun Subramaniam, an engineer. When he presented his idea to Roshan, the latter was so inspired that he quit his IT job to join this venture. 

When this came recommended by Arya and Chinmayi Sripada — let’s be honest, with that voice I will do as she commands — I decided to try one and I have to say I love it. With the kind of water problems that Chennaiites face every summer, this would be a responsible thing to do. When two twenty-something-year-olds can come up with a great solution that’s the price of a movie ticket + popcorn, I think we can make this sacrifice for our singara Chennai.
