Man held with 10 fake passports at city airport
A middle-aged man, who was in possession of as many as 10 fake passports issued from different states, was arrested by the sleuths from the Chennai City Central Crime Branch (CCB) while he was about to board an international flight on Friday. He was identified as Manivannan (52) of Chennai.
Chennai
Manivannan came to Chennai airport to board a flight to Doha early on Friday morning.
At 3.30 am, as the immigration officials were scanning the travel documents of the passengers, Manivannan took his passport from his hand baggage. His luck ran out, as a packet fell off from his bag while he was taking out the passport.
Nervously, Manivannan picked it up and tried to put it back on his bag without attracting the attention of the officials. However, noticing all these, the immigration officials grew suspicious. They called Manivannan and asked what the parcel contained. He claimed it contained some medicines. When the officials asked him to open it, Manivannan reportedly refused.
But the immigration officials opened the package and found 10 fake passports inside it. Mannivannan then claimed all the passports belonged to his relatives, which were kept in in his bag by mistake. But the officials found all the passports were of different states.
Refusing to believe his claims, the officials detained him and seized all the passports. Later, he was handed over to the CCB, who are investigating further.
