SRM ties up with Kingston

The collaboration is a result of the long-term engagement that the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) provides to its academic partners in a bid to enhance the quality of their engineering programmes as well as pushing them towards attaining global benchmarks of quality engineering education. 

Tawnya from International Partnership Kingston University and Dr Parivendhar – Chancellor, Institute of Science and Technology inked the MoU. Dr Sandeep Sachethi, Vice Chancellor, Dr Sethuraman, Registrar and Dr Muthamizhchelvan, Director E&T, Head of Department and partnership teams were present at the function in the SRM Campus. 

The collaboration will allow both universities to work on multiple engagements, beginning with student and faculty research exchange programmes. 

SRM is Kingston University’s first collaboration partner in southern India. SRM Institute of Science and Technology received accreditation for select programmes in 2017. SRM gained IET accreditation for its engineering courses in 2017, and the global collaboration is part of the long-term development plans that the IET co-creates with its partner institutions. 

Shekhar Sanyal, Director and country head, IET India said, “Helping Indian engineering institutions attain global benchmarks of quality is at the heart of the IET’s focus. 

Attaining the IET’s international accreditation is a small, yet significant milestone towards this journey and not the destination itself. Hence, we work in a sustained manner and build capabilities in institutions on multiple levels to fulfil their aspirations around producing quality Indian engineers for the world. 

I believe the collaboration with Kingston University will be another important milestone in SRM Institute’s journey towards excellence and the IET is happy to have been able to add to it – in our own capacity.” 

On signing the MoU, Dr Muthamizhchelvan said, “We are extremely happy with the great opportunity that IET has presented to us. This agreement will provide an exposure to our students and faculties on the international best practices. The aim is to offer the best of both worlds to the students and faculties of both the universities. We look forward to a multifaceted relationship with the Kingston University.”
