After realising that there were few options in the city that encouraged trekking – when compared to many camping options – he decided to begin a venture of his own for trekkers – but with a twist.

“I realised that people got bored quickly on such trips, especially later at night when they are camping with tents. We are experts in organising and guiding people through terrain – but not when it comes to entertainment. At the same time, I wanted to use this as an opportunity to give upcoming talents in the city a chance to prove their mettle. After pondering over the options, we finally chose stand-up comedy as the field to collaborate with,” he explained.

Along with Hemachandra and Vimal, Yogesh then founded Hygge Journeys to establish his plans – “The word ‘Hygge’ is Danish that is renowned internationally for denoting living with the simple pleasures of life and enjoying it. We wanted our trekkers to experience such a feeling when they come with us.”

Tanglish Comedy Club, a rising stand-up comedy outfit in the city then came on board to work with Hygge. Yogesh says, “They were also looking for an opportunity for their performers to get an audience. The field is recognised as a profession in Chennai these days, but many young college students still seek validation before they can go on stage. This turned out to be a perfect platform for them.”

Just a month old, Hygge is already a hit among Millennials in the city seeking unique weekend activities – and they are getting fitter with every trek! “Tadiandamol, Kudremukh and Kotte-Betta are some of our upcoming treks for now. We focus on Tamil Nadu and other parts of south India. The feedback we have got from customers has been great and we hope this will aid the burgeoning stand up scene in the city,” Yogesh concluded.
