The residents alleged that liquor was being sold at the bar attached to the shop even after 10 pm, the closing time, in violation of rules. On Friday morning, women gathered in front of the Tasmac shop at Nehru Nagar near Pozhichalur in Pallavaram and demanded to shut the shop immediately.

Soon, Shankar Nagar police and the local VAO visited the spot and held talks with the protesters. They told the officials that the women who returned home from work late in the night were afraid to walk on the street due to the presence of drunkards in the bar all the time.

The protesters also alleged that chain snatching, robbery and other such crimes have increased in the locality because of the liquor shop. The VAO promised to shift the shop from the street within a month and deploy regular police patrol in the area to prevent crimes, especially near the Tasmac outlet.

Following this, the protesters relented after staging the agitation for two hours.
