2 sections of Metro Rail to be launched today

They will flag off a train from Egmore Metro station and throw open Egmore, Chennai Central, Saidapet, Nandanam, Teynampet and AG-DMS underground stations at 12.30pm on Friday. With this, Metro Rail link from Chennai Central and Anna Salai to airport would be established. The 2.7km Nehru Park – Chennai Central stretch will cut through Nehru Park, Egmore and Chennai Central Metro stations, while the 4 km Saidapet -DMS stretch would include Saidapet, Nandanam, Teynampet and AG-DMS stations. 

It is estimated that commuters would be able to reach Airport from Chennai Central (25kms) via Koyambedu in 45 minutes, while the same journey from AG-DMS would take 35 minutes.

The inauguration would also increase train frequency on Alandur – Central as availability of loop line facility at Central station would help operate trains on both tracks simultaneously beyond Shenoy Nagar towards Central.
