The DVAC has registered a case against Ranganathan, assistant engineer, and Elangovan, revenue supervisor of Paraniputhur EB office in Kancheepuram district, under sections of Prevention of Corruption Act.

This came after the complainant alleged that the official sought Rs 2,000 to do the name transfer on the EB card. Describing the ordeal he had to go through, the complainant, a computer professional, said he was asked to pay the money when he approached the EB office for name transfer of EB card after purchasing a new flat. The demand was made even after giving all the required documents, the person alleged.

“This incident is making me disappointed,” he said in his letter to the DVAC, and requested the agency to take necessary action. He has also submitted a recorded conversation between him and the AE to prove his allegation that the officer was seeking bribe to do his duty.  DVAC officers said the initial complaint was received on May 3 this year.

Following this, it was decided to register an FIR after confidential preliminary enquiry on May 8. The original FIR along with the complaint copy and CD containing conversation between the complainant and AE Ranaganathan on May 7 in the office of the AE has been submitted to the court.
