First-of-its-kind pet parents meet held in Chennai
The ‘Pet Parents Meet-2018’, a first-of-its-kind event in the state, was held on Wednesday at the Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (TANUVAS) for creating awareness about the most prevalent infectious diseases namely Parvo Viral Enteritis and Canine Distemper that affect pets.

Parvovirus, which would require the canine to be treated at a Veterinary hospital, has symptoms like vomiting, diarrhoea, weight loss, and lack of appetite. Stating that treatment would be necessary, Dr K Kumanan, Dean in charge, Madras Veterinary College, said, “Treatment is not always successful in this case.” He urged the pet parents to get their pets vaccinated.
Dr C Balachandran, University Vice-Chancellor, released the Technical Fact Sheets on infectious animal diseases and also an awareness video film on Parvo Viral Enteritis and Canine Distemper. The video conveyed the various symptoms of diseases, transmission and preventive measures to be undertaken.
