Youth’s suicide bid ‘broken’ by mall guard
A 23-year-old youth who attempted suicide, after uploading a video on Facebook showing his anger against the society, jumped from the fourth floor of Forum Mall in Vadapalani on Friday. Instead of diving straight down, he fortunately landed on a security guard on the ground floor, whereby both were severely injured and admitted to a hospital.

Police said 40-year-old security guard Devasahayam was ‘successful’ in saving the 23-year-old youth identified as Sabaratinan K, who jumped off the fourth floor. But Devasahayam, a resident of Ashok Nagar, suffered fracture on his thighs, while Sabarinathan, a BE graduate and native of Chidambaram, suffered injuries and dislocation in his spinal cord.
Immediately after the incident, both were rushed to a corporate hospital in Vadapalani. Police said that Sabarinathan had earlier uploaded a 43- minute long video on Facebook to show his anger towards the society which, he thinks, need lot of changes. After uploading the video, the disgruntled youth went to the Forum Mall, reached the gaming zone on the fourth floor and jumped off. Vadapalani police have registered a case.
Sabarinathan is the second son to Kuselan, who worked and retired as a garden supervisor at the Neyveli Lignite Corporation, police said. Sabarinathan had completed a civil engineering course and had been staying with his friends in a rented room.
