GOSHA incident: Final probe report awaited

Even as a five-member team of doctors from the Madras Medical College is nearing the end of its probe into sexual misconduct allegations against a professor at Government Kasturba Gandhi Hospital (GOSHA), a letter written by the students to Health Minister Dr C Vijaya Baskar has emerged, describing in detail the alleged atrocities they faced.

The letter dated February 5 was apparently written by PG students of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department of the hospital, under the MMC. Stating that an inquiry was conducted as soon as a complaint was received, Dr Edwin Joe, Director of medical Education said, “The complaint from an anonymous source was found to be baseless after inquiry. Later, after we received another complaint from another anonymous source on the same issue, a second inquiry was conducted with PG students.

However, that too was found to be baseless.” An inquiry committee comprising five MMC doctors were asked to probe after receiving yet another complaint that was directed through the CM’s special cell. “Though we are awaiting the final report, it is clear that the allegations are not true,” said MMC dean Dr R Jayanthi.
