Two men were arrested for allegedly making a hoax threat call to the Chennai airport on Friday.
Chennai
On Thursday night, police control room got a call which stated that five terrorists were camping on the Tirisulam hillock with a plan to attack Chennai airport. The caller then disconnected the line. With the caller sounding drunk, police did not inform the airport authorities regarding the call.
After the call was traced to a location in Tirisulam, Pallavaram police were informed and a special team was formed to apprehend the culprits. Police with the help of tower signals found the call was made from Gangai Amman Koil Street in the locality.
Police immediately rushed to the spot and found seven men, all hailing from Kancheepuram, in intoxicated condition. All of them, who sell parrots and pigeons at the weekly market in Pallavaram, were then taken to the Pallavaram police station for questioning. But the police soon found that real culprits were Musthafa (37) and Pattasu Balu (40), fellow traders at the market.
“They asked for a commission from the seven persons, which the latter refused to give. Musthafa and Balu then made a call to the police to land the seven persons in trouble,” police said. Musthafa and Balu, who already have cases pending against them, were both arrested during the early hours of Friday morning.
