Doctor held for secretly filming women patients

The doctor, who is popular among the local public, was arrested following a complaint from a 29-year-old woman patient, police said, adding that about 30 videos of women patients were found on his mobile phone. 

The woman, married and settled in neighbouring Tiruvallur, and her husband were in Chennai to visit her mother. The couple runs a tiffin centre in Tiruvallur. On Thursday she developed chest pain and visited Dr M Sivagurunathan, who runs R M Clinic on Nattu Subbrayan Street. 

When the couple entered his consulting room, the doctor asked the husband to wait outside and closed the doors. The man, however, kept a watch on his wife through the glass window. The doctor instructed the woman to remove her clothes, which she unsuspectingly followed. But the husband standing outside noticed that the doctor had secretly placed mobile phone on the table to capture the video of his patient undressing. 

Seeing this, the man rushed inside and fought with the doctor, and also found another phone hidden under the table, police said, quoting the woman’s husband. The couple informed their friend about the incident, who in turn alerted the Mylapore police. A team of policemen reached the clinic and detained Sivagurunathan for questioning on Thursday. On Friday, he was arrested.

Police later said that the doctor was in possession of at least 30 videos of women patients in his phone, and suspect that they all were recorded secretly without the consent of the patients. Sivagurunathan was popular in the locality, as he treated people from poorer section charging only Rs 200 for consultation.
