Governor Purohit likely to go to Delhi today

Amid the raging controversy over TN Governor Banwarilal Purohit’s name cropping up in the case of Assistant Professor P Nirmala Devi of Devanga Arts College, Aruppukottai and the one-man inquiry committee formed by him to probe the scandal, the Governor is likely to fly to New Delhi to appraise the Centre of the developments in the case.

Raj Bhavan sources here said that the TN Governor is expected to meet Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Thursday during his visit and explain to him the recent developments over the scandal involving the Assistant Professor and its political fallout over the Governor’s gesture of patting a journalist on the cheek at the Tuesday’s press meet. 
The visit assumes significance in the backdrop of Opposition parties crying foul over the one-man committee to probe the scandal and the press meet issue.
After Purohit’s office was allegedly mentioned in the leaked tape in which Nirmala Devi urges college students to extend favours to top MKU officials, the Governor called for an urgent press meet to clarify his stand on Tuesday.
