Two immigration officials held in fake passport racket
Two immigration officials, who allegedly aided those with fake passports to fly abroad, were arrested by the antifake passport wing of the CCB on Wednesday. Five others, who were part of the ring, were also arrested.

CCB officers caught D Jayasingh (42) of K K Nagar and R Stephen (57) of Ullagaram red-handed while they were collecting bribe to clear fake passports. Stephan is a junior assistant intelligence officer with the Bureau of Immigration. Based on the information they provided, S Vinoth Kumar (31), D Tamil Maran (38), his brother Jeppiar (30) and M Natarajan (59) of Iyyappanthangal were secured, and later remanded in judicial custody.
A senior officer said they did not suspect anything because at least one person was being caught every week with fake passport at the airport here. “Now that the involvement of immigration officials has been established, these officials should also be monitored,” the officer added.
The team also arrested two wanted persons in connection with smuggling cases, S Shahabuddin of Srilanka and M Nagoor Hanifa (47) of Tondiarpet.
