P Raveendran, Chairman, Chennai Port, while releasing the annual report, which was released on Saturday, said that the port is poised to provide Multi Modal Logistics Park (MMLP) at Jolarpet for which a consultant has been appointed.

Accordingly, efficiency performance parameters like pre-berthing detention, turn-around time and ship berth-day output have improved compared to 2016-17.

The operating surplus for the 2017-18 is Rs 225.49 crore (provisional) as against Rs 217.20 crore during 2016-17 registering an increase of 3.82 per cent, which was achieved by exercising tight control on operational expenditure.

Chennai Port has made operational a new multi-lane gate complex at gate number one facilitating faster entry and exit of container and other cargo trucks.

To tap the potential for bunker fuels along the east coast, it has been proposed to construct a 181m long bunker berth at an estimated cost of Rs 44 crore.

The existing cruise terminal has been upgraded and modernised to international standards with a grant from the Ministry of Tourism as part of the Cruise Shipping Policy and was ready to receive the cruise vessels with all facilities required for cruise passengers.

The first cruise vessel in this terminal was the ‘Viking Sun’ bound for Cochin that sailed with 845 tourists on board on April 1, 2018.
