Tea seller stabs man for not settling account
Annoyed after a history-sheeter refused to pay for the tea he drank, a shop owner stabbed him at Kasimedu on Wednesday.
Chennai
The incident happened when S Sampath (26), along with his mother Sarasu, went to tea shop run by P Prabhu (33) at Singaravelan Street. After drinking tea, Sampath tried to leave the place without paying for it. When Prabhu confronted him, Sampath took out a knife, and threatened Prabhu stating that he would not pay any money as he was the “rowdy” of the locality.
However, to his shock, Prabhu took a knife from his shop and stabbed Sampath in front of his mother. After Sampath fell unconscious, Prabhu fled the spot. On information, Kasimedu police rushed to the spot and admitted Sampath to the Stanley Medical College Hospital. They traced and arrested Prabhu on Thursday.
During investigation, Prabhu reportedly told police that Sampath had been drinking tea from his shop for a long time, but never paid up. He was angered by this, which led to the stabbing. Prabhu has been remanded in judicial custody and Sampath is said to be out of danger.
