The boy, who had suffered three heart attacks previously, was in dire need of a heart transplant. While waiting for a heart at the Fortis Malar Hospital, where he was brought on November 10 last year, he suffered his first cardiac arrest on January 4.

Doctors massaged his heart for 45 minutes before opening his chest and connecting him to a pump or an extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) machine.

On the surgery table too, he suffered a cardiac arrest, but the doctors decided to continue with the treatment. Bringing the boy back and performing the transplant, the doctors termed it as a miracle and something like this had never happened before.

The boy and his mother, subsequently visited the chief minister at the Secretariat, to express their gratitude. Health Minister, Dr C Vijaya Baskar, Transplant Surgeon Dr KR Balakrishnan and the doctors, who were part of the team that performed the surgery on the boy, were present during the boy’s meeting with the CM.

It was reported that the boy learnt English during his stay here in Chennai.
