Protesters arrested for hurling stones at Shastri Bhavan
About 300 protesters, including those belonging to May 17 Movement, hurled stones at Shastri Bhavan on Monday to protest the Centre’s delay in constituting Cauvery Management Board.

Led by their leader Thirumurugan Gandhi, the activists carried placards raised slogans against the central government in front of the complex in Nungambakkam that houses a number of central government offices. Gandhi said that the Centre has betrayed the state while collecting all kinds of taxes from the people.
“Our protest will continue until Cauvery Management Board is formed,” he said. Although the police cordoned it off with barricades, protesters allegedly threw stones and slippers towards Shastri Bhavan.
When some of the protesters tried to burn an effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the police tried to disperse the gathering, which led to violence. Gandhi and 163 other protesters were arrested and later released on bail. Among them, five have been booked for causing damage to property.
