Madhavaram inter-city bus terminus will be ready soon: O Panneerselvam
The intercity bus terminus that is coming up at Madhavaram at a cost of Rs 95 crore would be ready in the next couple of months, said Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam. He visited the site on Monday to inspect the progress.

The terminus which is under construction at an eight-acre land near the truck yard at the GNT road and Inner Ring Road junction will cater to buses coming in from the neighbouring states in the north.
“The bus terminus will be a boon for buses that are operated to Nellore, Tiruppati and Hyderabad,” said a statement from the Housing and Urban Development Corporation.
The main construction works were over, the release noted, adding that Panneerselvam said it would be completed in the next couple of months. The deputy Chief Minister also instructed concerned officials to speed up the works, the release added.
After the terminus is ready, buses bound for Andhra Pradesh would be shifted from Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus (CMBT) to the new facility.
Once completed, the ground floor would have the capacity to accommodate 42 buses, while first floor would have space 50 buses – all of which are coming to CMBT now.
Officials at Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA), which is the monitoring body, said that they were preparing blueprint for laying approaching roads to the terminus. “All the works will be completed by the end of June,” said an official.
The state government approved the construction of the terminus on October 31, 2011, in an effort to reduce congestion within the city. The idea was to shift the long distance buses plying to and from Andhra Pradesh at Madhavaram so as to avoid them coming inside the city.
