Inaugurating the scheme, Chennai City Police Commissioner A K Viswanathan said interested students should utilise the opportunity. Money should not be a hurdle for interested students, he said.

Viswanathan, also the president of the club, offered help for deserving students. The club has engaged two national level shooters as trainers, who would train the children in basic and advanced level.

The entry fee for the scheme is Rs 2,000, while annual subscription fee is Rs 750 and annual coaching fee of Rs 3,000. Coaching would be conducted daily, from 6 am to 8 am and from 3 pm to 7 pm. The club, located in the CBCID office complex premises, would train at least 200 children per year, for whom the shooting range with modern electronic target is ready.

Besides technical classes about guns and shooting, there would also be yoga classes for mental conditioning and also physical training. Those best performers would get a chance to participate in the forthcoming state shooting championship in rifle and pistol events to be held in Madurai. They may also get a chance to take part in the All India G V Mavlankar shooting championship (pre nationals) to be held in Chennai in September.

The scheme would help produce quality shooters, said Tamil Nadu Shooting Association secretary R Ravi Krishnan. Those interested can contact D Kumar, the executive committee member of the club (98413 92590).
