Woman posing as maid held in bid to snatch chain from housewife

The accused entered the house in the pretence of looking for a job as maid. She was chased and nabbed by neighbours when the victim raised alarm. 

Police are interrogating M Mekhala (47) of TNGO Colony in Pazhavanthangal, to find out if she has any criminal record. The incident took place around 3 pm at Muthamizh Nagar when 58-year-old Banumathi was alone in the house. Mekhala went to the house and asked Banumathi if she needed a house help.

When Banumathi declined, she requested for food. While Mekhala was having lunch outside the house, Banumathi went to the terrace to dry clothes. When she returned, Mekhala was not there. However, Banumathi heard noise from the house and saw her taking brass vessels. When she caught Mekhala, the latter slapped her and snatched her gold chain before trying to escape from the house.
