“It was a decision taken up at the national executive meet of the All India Federation of Government Doctors’ Association on March 10, 11 in Bihar, to focus on three demands - 50 per cent reservation for service doctors in PG admission, a Central pay structure and the abolition of the National Medical Commission (NMC) Bill,” said Dr A Ramalingam, state organising secretary, SDPGA.

Doctors from Tiruchy, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Salem, Tiruvannamalai, Kancheepuram, Villupuram, Dindigul, Theni and Tirunelveli districts also took part in dharnas held across the state. “We are giving the government a week’s time. If they fail to meet our demands within that time, we will decide what to do next,” Dr Ramalingam added.
