According to Sadras police, Selvam, a load auto driver, came to know that his wife was having a relationship with Anandan. Angered by it, he warned her against continuation of the relationship, and asked her to not to talk to him anymore. Police said Chandramathi and Anandan planned to eliminate Selvam after this.

On Sunday night, Selvam received a phone call from a person identifying himself as a customer who wanted to shift materials on his auto. Investigators said it was Anandan who made the call. Without knowing this, Selvam was driving near his house in Poonthandalam around 9.30 pm on that day.

Suddenly, a group of five persons who came on a car and a two-wheeler intercepted his auto. They forcefully dragged Selvam out of the vehicle and slit his throat. The gang then escaped from the scene, and Selvam died soon afterwards.

On Monday morning, Chandramathi staged a drama saying that her husband was missing and started searching for him. Later Sadras police found an unidentified body on ECR and confirmed it was Selvam, and began investigations.

During their investigations, the police team learned from Selvam’s relatives about Chandramathi’s alleged extra marital affair. They then conducted inquiry with her and also went through her mobile call details. Police found she had called Anandan many times in the last few days, including on the day of the murder.

The team them nabbed Anandan, who reportedly confessed to the crime during interrogation. Following this, police arrested Chandramathi and the others on Tuesday.
