Walk to raise awareness on chronic kidney diseases
With over 65,000 people in the state in need of advanced treatment for kidney failure, and over 16,000 new patients being added to the list every year, there is a huge need for efforts to check the burden on the state.

To highlight the issue, the Department of Paediatric Nephrology, Dr Mehta’s Hospitals, in association with the Department of Social Work, DG Vaishnav College, organised an awareness walk at Elliot’s Beach on Sunday.
Stating that cases of women with chronic kidney failure is on the rise, Dr Sudha Ekambaram, consultant paediatric nephrologist at the hospital, said, “Around six lakh women die every year due to chronic renal failure.”
A street play themed for World Kidney Day was also staged during the walk by students from different city colleges.
