A kidnap accused, who was released on conditional bail recently, has been held for affixing proxy signature at the register at Triplicane police station.Â
M Rasool (37) of Royapettah was arrested along with six others including Sulaiman Sait (35) of Tenkasi in December 2017 for allegedly kidnapping businessman Syed Mohammad Buhari (28) as he failed to repay the loan he had received.Â
Buhari, a native of Tirunelveli, ran a sand business with Sahul Hameed, 48, a native of Tenkasi.Â
Buhari had borrowed Rs 44 lakh from Hameed but could not repay it as promised. So, Hameed filed a complaint with the Tenkasi police, following which, Buhari returned Rs 4 lakh and went into hiding. In December, Hameed traced Buhari in Triplicane and with the help of Sait and Rasool kidnapped his business partner and kept him hostage in a lodge in Triplicane.Â
On February 15, Rasool and Sulaiman Sait were released on conditional bail and were ordered to sign at the Triplicane police station every day until the court issues its next order. While both followed the court order initially and signed in person, Sulaiman Sait did not appear for the last few days. When the matter was communicated to Royapettah police station, they verified the register and were shocked to see his signature until Wednesday. It was found that Rasool was signing for Sulaiman Sait as well for the past few days.
