Constable takes to Facebook to announce resignation
On the day a sub-inspector shot himself to death, another constable announced his decision to quit his job in a video on Facebook, citing refusal of leave even for emergencies. However, senior officers MS Muthusamy refuted his allegations.

G Bharathi from Madurai, a grade-II constable attached to Pallikaranai police station, had sought leave to be with his son, who had to undergo a surgery. But the inspector turned it down. Bharathi then approached the next higher official, Madipakkam assistant commissioner, who granted him only two days leave due to “workload”. He then went to the deputy commissioner’s office, where he was not even allowed inside and was instead asked to meet assistant commissioner again.
Left with no choice, he went on leave without permission and when he reported for duty 10 days later, he was not allowed to sign the register. “As there was no response even after trying to meet officials… I decided to quit the job to take care of agriculture at hometown,” he concludes in the video.
However, St Thomas Mount Deputy Commissioner MS Muthusamy said Bharathi was granted medical leave as he had already exhausted all his leaves, but he did not return to duty even after 21 days. “He was declared deserted as per rules, but he could not be intimated of it as he had already vacated from the address he had provided. The VAO has submitted a report and his whereabouts is still not known,” the officer added in a statement.
