CWC to decide on children rescued from hospice
The nine children who were found at the St Joseph’s hospice in Paleswaram last week would be produced before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) on Wednesday to decide on which children’s homes they should be send to, officials said.

On Wednesday, while shifting out the 100 of the 289 inmates, officials found the nine children, including four who are reportedly under the age of five.
“We have directed the Salavakkam police to book a case for holding those children without license. The home has no proof for those children,” said CWC chairman Zaheeruddin Mohammad, adding that they have filed a habeas corpus petition.
“Keeping children in old age homes itself is unacceptable; this is worse as it is a hospice. They have been witnessing death at such close quarters which is unacceptable,” he added. While the hospice administration claimed that the children’s parents worked there, they were unable to produce any proof. “Only two among the nine children have parents working at the hospice. The remaining are children of mentally ill inmates,” he said. In the case of those two children, the chairman said they would be left in the care of their parents if they produce records.
